[Youtube/Ublock][WIP] List of undesirable channels

We all know that youtube search has been steadily going downhill, down the toilet, down the drains ... with no end in sight.

Shorts being recommended aggressively, the filter options not being respected and the cherry on-top is the irrelevant suggestions from previous totally unrelated stuff popping in the middle of the search page.

The list of problems is too long for me to remember in one go .. the honest solution would be to just reduce or stop my youtube usage (the irony of writing that on a blogospot isn't lost on me).

So i will try to maintain a list of ublock origin filters to :

  • Disable shorts aggressively (a hard thing to do for someone with fomo)
  • Disable either promoted or 'viral' channels that keep popping up in irrelevant searches : LinusTechTips and his myriad other channels
  • The dude which just reads stackoverflow answers in his videos with an intro/outro added and a video of him hiking (i lost his ID but i will find you fucker !)
  •  Idian/Spanish tech/programming youtube channels who use English titles without mentioning the content is actually in another language

So i found this website with the following filters :

youtube.com##ytd-item-section-renderer.style-scope:has(a[href='/channel/CHANNEL_ID']) youtube.com##ytd-compact-video-renderer:has(a[href='/channel/CHANNEL_ID'])

but it seems to be outdated the current way to do it is :

youtube.com##ytd-item-section-renderer.style-scope:has(a[href='/@CHANNEL_ID'])
youtube.com##ytd-compact-video-renderer:has(a[href='/@CHANNEL_ID'])

Example :

! Block all Linus tech tips and related channels
youtube.com##ytd-item-section-renderer.style-scope:has(a[href='/@techquickie'])
youtube.com##ytd-compact-video-renderer:has(a[href='/@techquickie'])

youtube.com##ytd-item-section-renderer.style-scope:has(a[href='/@LinusTechTips'])
youtube.com##ytd-compact-video-renderer:has(a[href='/@LinusTechTips'])

I hope to make a .txt list of all the « undesirables » and then dynamically load them up, or await that youtube add the option to not show certain channels in your feed/searches. Thus i am marking this post as a Work-in-progress, hopefully i will accumulate Channel IDs and put them on github or something as well as figure out a way to sideload them in ublock.

But for now the search loop-de-loop being stuck and an empty page showing when i explicitly search for « Linus tech tips » shall be the highlight of my day :D

PS: apparently unrelated recommendations both from side bar and searches are a massive source of traffic and thus would probably never be taken off for the benefit of a few bitching users ...

Game-ideas from Youtube : part 1

I just watched this video, about a tiny leaf collecting game :  link And i really want to clone/implement a similar design as an exercise for learning godot/blender with the following improvements :  Add a tiny achievement or goal or quest system  : ex: collect X type of leaf ..etc full inventory of common, full inventory of rare ..  [either U.I button or mouse action] Option to kick the tree once in a while which will make a bigger drop (a spinner will show how much time you have left until the next kick)   [UI button] Option for fast forward time skip ">> x3" or something for short burst of faster game loop to not wait for eternity (and also for debug purposes)  Make the leafs behind the tree glow-y and the  tree a bit transparent (?) like a cs-wall-hack effect.

[Zine][mini-project] Programming Booklets

I watched this video yesterday;   (link)    and it stirred in me the desire to make programming booklets which could contain : CheatSheets Mini-projects Something else ?  Purchases : Acquire a cheap monochrome laser printer with a cheap toner/refill (hopefully i can find a second hand Brother or a pro-grade HP Colored paper : Red, Green and Yellow (orange?)  To-do : Do a test run. Find the software as well as the material necessary to produce a Zine-like booklet containing a programming project (text editor ? or small game ? Chip-8 platform independent ?)  with a quick Cheat-sheet for C or Python or whatever ... Find some cool graphics to add (similar to this : engraving style ?? learn how to make them in photoshop or extract them from public domain books) : I probably should read some Zines as part of my research !
